Germany’s federal procurement office has contracted Diehl Defence to supply additional IRIS-T missiles for both air-to-air and ground-based air defense roles. The acquisition builds upon a 2023 framework agreement covering over 1,200 missiles and aims to replenish national stocks through 2030. Air-launched variants will equip Eurofighter and Tornado aircraft, while IRIS-T SLS and SLM interceptors will strengthen layered ground-based defenses. The SLS offers 12-kilometer range coverage, while the SLM extends engagement distances to 60 kilometers. To meet growing international demand across 21 user nations, Diehl is investing 1.5 billion euros in expanded production capacity.
