Vietnam is nearing a deal with India to buy $700 million worth of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
The missiles will be used by Hanoi’s land-based and air-launched systems that are compatible with the Vietnam People’s Air Force’s Su-30 jets, advancing the nation’s recent efforts to create a more modern defense force.
The Indian Defence Research Wing expects the agreement to be completed in the next several weeks.
This follows news that Hanoi was considering buying a $625 million package of three to five batteries in 2023.
Following the Philippines’ 2021 agreement for a $362 million, three-battery, shore-based variant, Vietnam will be the second nation in Asia to purchase the missiles.
