Production and sustainment of a long-serving sea-based nuclear missile system will continue under a newly awarded contract modification, underscoring its importance to both the US and UK deterrence posture. The system, introduced over three decades ago, has achieved a strong test record thanks to continuous upgrades that preserve accuracy and reliability. The expanded contract ensures manufacturing and support operations remain active through 2030, with obligations for both American and allied forces. By extending the life of the missile into the 2040s, both governments are aligning it with upcoming submarine fleets, opting for incremental modernization rather than outright replacement.
