Norway has selected South Korea’s K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system from Hanwha Aerospace to modernize its rocket artillery capability, choosing the system over European and U.S. alternatives. The deal includes 16 launchers and a substantial missile inventory covering multiple range categories, including strike capability out to 500 kilometers. Deliveries of launchers and training assets are planned for 2028–2029, with missile deliveries following in the early 2030s. The decision marks one of the Norwegian Army’s largest investments and reflects a shift toward suppliers offering longer-range strike options, faster delivery timelines, and competitive costs. The program also builds on Norway’s existing partnership with Hanwha, following the earlier acquisition of K9 self-propelled howitzers.
