The French arms procurement agency (DGA) has awarded Paris-based defense tech company Harmattan AI a contract to provide 1,000 combat drones equipped with artificial intelligence.
The multi-million-dollar agreement calls for delivery to the French Army between October and December.
The unnamed quadcopter micro-drones will be used to train French soldiers and get them ready for operations, such as the multinational military exercise Orion 2026. According to the French company Harmattan AI, the 1.8-kilogram (4-pound) platform, which was created entirely by them, is intended to be “autonomous, scalable, and combat-ready.”
The unidentified drone can fly for 40 minutes at a range of 2 kilometers (1.24 miles).
In addition to the electro-optical camera, an infrared camera can be added.
