The US Army has awarded a contract worth $1.7 billion for delivery of nine Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensors (LTAMDS) to the United States and Poland. The package includes radars, engineering services, spare parts, support, and testing. The LTAMDS, built with 360-degree active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology, is intended to replace the aging Patriot radar. The system successfully completed eight flight tests and achieved Milestone C approval, allowing low-rate production to begin in 2025. Poland becomes the first international customer to acquire LTAMDS as part of its WISŁA program, which integrates Patriot radars, launchers, and interceptors into a networked air defense system managed by the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS). Poland was also the first US ally to adopt IBCS in 2018. In addition, Poland’s Military Electronic Works (WZE) has signed an agreement to supply LTAMDS energy storage assembly modules, marking the first international contribution to the radar program’s supply chain. The deal strengthens NATO’s collective air defense capability and highlights Poland’s increasing role in joint defense development.
