The US Department of Defense has awarded Raytheon a $698.9-million contract to deliver NASAMS fire units to Taiwan, with work running through February 2031 in Massachusetts. The procurement, funded via FY 2026 foreign military sales, follows Washington’s recent approval of a $330-million fighter-spares package. Taiwan’s FY 2026 defense budget lists NASAMS for the first time, allocating 35.7 billion NTD for radars, launch units, training, and pre-delivery support. Two Taiwanese officers have been stationed in the US to monitor production and logistics. Taipei says NASAMS—which has proven effective in Ukraine—will significantly reinforce its layered air-defense network amid rising Chinese pressure. The systems will pair with two enhanced radars designed to improve detection and resist electronic interference, supporting defense of bases, ports, and radar sites across the island.
