Russia has confirmed that its first air and missile defense regiment equipped with the S-500 Prometheus system has officially entered combat service. Operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces, the S-500 is designed to counter a wide spectrum of advanced threats, including ballistic and cruise missiles, fifth-generation aircraft, and low-orbit satellites. Developed by Almaz-Antey to complement the S-400, the system bridges the gap between tactical and strategic missile defense. It employs either 40N6M long-range missiles or 77N6 interceptors, supported by a multi-radar architecture capable of detecting ballistic targets at distances of up to 2,000 kilometers.
