Lithuania has finalized a €320 million agreement with Sweden’s Saab to procure RBS 70 Bolide short-range air defense missiles, marking one of the country’s most significant recent investments in airspace protection. Announced by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense in late December 2025, the deal aims to strengthen national and NATO-aligned defenses against low-altitude aerial threats along the alliance’s eastern flank. The contract falls under a trilateral framework involving Saab and Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration, ensuring long-term supply stability and logistical support. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028 and continue through 2032. The Bolide missile represents the most advanced evolution of the RBS 70 system, offering increased speed, extended engagement range, and improved lethality against aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, and cruise missiles. Lithuania has operated the RBS 70 since 2004, and the new acquisition ensures sustained ammunition availability in a deteriorating regional security environment.
