South Korea has completed initial deployment of the upgraded Cheongung-II air defense system. With a 40km range and improved radar, it now intercepts ballistic threats and aircraft alike. This enhanced system forms part of South Korea’s KAMD architecture and supports its multi-layered defense strategy against North Korea. Costing about $467 million, the upgrade avoided a full rebuild by building on the original Cheongung platform.
