The US Army is developing a centralized online drone marketplace to simplify the process of acquiring unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Instead of going through slow bureaucratic channels, soldiers will soon have access to a user-friendly “Amazon-like” interface, allowing them to filter available drones by features such as price, payload, or endurance. The project is being spearheaded by the Program Executive Office (PEO) for Aviation and aims to speed up delivery of commercial drones for unit-level needs. The effort aligns with the Army’s push to integrate commercial innovation directly into military service, giving troops more flexibility when choosing mission-tailored drones. Procurement could be quicker, more transparent, and responsive to tactical requirements, effectively modernizing the acquisition process.
