Boeing has secured a $173-million contract from the US Air Force to supply eight additional MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters, including training and sustainment support. The award increases the total Grey Wolf fleet under contract to 34 aircraft, with 18 already delivered from prior production lots. The new helicopters are slated for deployment at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. Based on the Leonardo AW139 civilian platform, the twin-engine MH-139A has been adapted for military missions such as search and rescue, patrol, personnel transport, and missile field security. Boeing handles production and final assembly in Philadelphia, while Leonardo provides airframes from Italy. The partnership allows integration of advanced avionics, defensive systems, and secure communications tailored to Air Force requirements. The Grey Wolf program is part of the Air Force’s effort to replace the aging UH-1N Huey fleet. Recent operational testing confirmed the helicopter’s capability in convoy escort, base defense, and nuclear security support roles.
