The innovative missile-launch platform that doesn’t require a pilot is being developed by the German defense companies Diehl Defence and POLARIS.
The system, known as the Airborne Launching and Attack System (AirLAS), combines POLARIS’s reusable unmanned carrier drone with Diehl’s battle-tested IRIS-T air-to-air missile.
The objective is to provide the armed forces with a cost-effective means of firing precision weapons from the air without the need for manned airplanes.
