New Mexico-based X-Bow Systems and the U.S. Army are jointly investing $13.9 million to develop a new solid rocket motor for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS). The project aims to strengthen the U.S. missile supply chain and ensure a steady source of critical munitions. X-Bow will apply its patented solid-propellant technology, while partnering with Kord Technologies for engineering and technical support. The initiative will conclude with a static fire test to validate the new motor and support production readiness. Funded under the Pentagon’s Advanced Manufacturing Pathfinder program, the effort is a public-private collaboration to modernize missile production, address obsolescence, and expand the industrial base. X-Bow CEO Jason Hundley highlighted that the project represents a shift in U.S. rocket motor manufacturing. The initiative builds on recent company advances, including the “Bolt” rocket test and hypersonic booster development, reinforcing the Army’s ability to maintain a reliable munitions supply for global operations.
