Altechna, a Lithuanian photonics firm, has been chosen to participate in an ambitious initiative to create Europe’s first complete autonomous 100-kilowatt laser weapon. The initiative, called TALOS-TWO (Tactical Advanced Laser Optical Systems-TWO), seeks to improve the lethality and accuracy of air, land, and sea platforms by outfitting them with a potent directed-energy weapon. The European Defense Fund supports the 25 million euro ($27 million) project, which is scheduled to be finished in 2030.
