Israel has completed the nationwide rollout of thousands of Arad assault rifles to rapid response teams, reinforcing standardized local defense capabilities following lessons learned from the October 2023 Hamas attack. The distribution stems from a 100-million-shekel procurement contract with Israel Weapon Industries and includes a 10-year sustainment package. The rifles are intended to equip civilian-military security squads, particularly in border areas, to delay or disrupt hostile incursions until regular forces arrive. The Arad rifle, based on AR architecture, features ambidextrous controls, modular rails, and compatibility with multiple calibers. Israeli officials say the initiative reflects a shift toward forward defense and better-equipped local responders as part of broader homeland security reforms.
