Babcock and Frankenburg Technologies are jointly assessing a new maritime counter-UAS concept focused on affordability, scalability, and rapid deployment. The collaboration aims to counter one-way attack drones that have proven difficult and costly to defeat using traditional air defense methods. The envisioned system would be containerized and capable of launching Frankenburg’s low-cost guided interceptors, offering flexible integration aboard ships or at port facilities. While technical details remain limited, development will be conducted in the UK, supporting domestic industry and export potential. Frankenburg’s recent Mark 1 interceptor trial demonstrated the ability to engage fast-moving drones using commercially sourced components, underscoring a strategy focused on speed of development, reduced cost, and operational adaptability in maritime environments.
