L3Harris has received a new order to upgrade the US Marine Corps’ satellite communications terminals, improving data throughput and enabling access to multiple satellite orbits in support of Joint All-Domain Command and Control priorities. The contract includes upgrades for Panther 2 man-portable terminals and Ku-band transceivers, raising output to 25 watts. The Panther 2 system is a lightweight, backpack-portable SATCOM terminal operable by a single Marine in under 10 minutes. It supports modular frequency-band changes, fanless modem operation, web-based management, and optional backup power. Configurations weigh 63–74 pounds, with the lightest under 34 pounds. The upgrade falls under the Marine Corps’ MCWS-X program, which focuses on resilient, expeditionary multiband SATCOM for dispersed units.
