The Dutch Ministry of Defence has signed an agreement with Robin Radar to procure 100 drone-detection radars to bolster security around key military sites and airports. Deliveries will begin immediately and continue through 2026. The radars will be deployed across airbases and critical infrastructure, giving Dutch forces more time to respond to unmanned aircraft intrusions—a growing concern after recent drone disruptions at Eindhoven Airport and Volkel Air Base. The systems, including Robin Radar’s Max, Iris, and Elvira families, can distinguish drones from birds and other objects, providing high-frequency updates and altitude mapping for three-dimensional tracking. Robin Radar recently confirmed that battlefield testing in Ukraine significantly improved the Iris model, doubling its detection range thanks to operational feedback. Amsterdam did not disclose which models will be fielded. The acquisition is part of broader European concerns over unauthorized drone activity at sensitive sites, with multiple countries reporting recent incidents.
