The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded BAE Systems a £454 million contract for the production of 38 European Common Radar System Mk2 (ECRS Mk2) units for RAF Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 3 jets. This program is part of the broader £2.35 billion Typhoon upgrade initiative begun in 2022. The radars, developed in collaboration with Leonardo, will enhance detection and targeting capabilities against multiple airborne and land threats. Manufacturing will take place at Leonardo facilities in Edinburgh and Luton, while BAE’s Lancashire site will support aircraft integration. The ECRS Mk2 is expected to enter service by the end of the decade and represents a significant advancement in Typhoon operational effectiveness, complementing the UK’s future Global Combat Air Programme developments with Italy and Japan.
