Denmark has selected Rheinmetall to supply ammunition for a broad mix of military platforms under a seven-year framework contract valued at several hundred million euros. The agreement covers ammunition for IFVs and self-propelled air defense systems, as well as 120mm tank rounds and 155mm artillery munitions.
The initial batch of medium-caliber orders includes multiple variants of 30×173mm and 35×228mm cartridges, amounting to high five-digit quantities and carrying a value in the low hundreds of millions of euros.
The procurement of 30×173mm ammunition reflects Denmark’s focus on enhancing its mobile short-range air defense capability, following the 2024 acquisition of Rheinmetall’s Skyranger 30 system. Skyranger 30 combines a 30mm cannon, missiles, and sensors on a single platform and uses programmable airburst ammunition to counter drones and other small, high-speed aerial targets.
The 35×228mm rounds will be used by Denmark’s CV9035 infantry fighting vehicles, which are armed with the Bushmaster III 35mm cannon. Denmark recently ordered 44 additional CV90 vehicles from BAE Systems, building on a previous 2024 order for 115 units. Rheinmetall will also deliver more than 1,000 rounds of 120mm kinetic-energy tank ammunition, with that segment of the contract valued in the high single-digit million-euro range.
