Germany has placed a €1.2-billion order for 84 RCH 155 wheeled self-propelled howitzers, reinforcing its commitment to modernizing artillery forces for high-mobility operations. The contract was awarded to Artec, the KNDS Germany–Rheinmetall joint venture, under a framework agreement that allows procurement of up to 500 systems. Rheinmetall will supply the 155mm weapon modules, electronics, and software, while Artec oversees final assembly, training systems, and logistics. Deliveries are scheduled between 2027 and 2029. The RCH 155 integrates a fully automated, remotely operated 155mm artillery gun with the Boxer 8×8 armored chassis, enabling it to fire on the move with precision at ranges of up to 40 kilometers. Automation reduces crew size to just two soldiers while maintaining high readiness and rapid repositioning. The system has already attracted international interest, with Ukraine ordering 54 units and additional European countries evaluating the platform. Germany’s procurement reflects a shift toward wheeled artillery solutions optimized for NATO mobility, survivability, and rapid deployment requirements.
