BAE Systems Hägglunds has partnered with Rheinmetall to equip the CV90120 light tank with the 120mm L44A1 low-recoil cannon. The CV90120, a variant of the CV90 infantry fighting vehicle built on the MkIV chassis, features a new engine, reinforced transmission, upgraded digital systems, and active protection against threats. Rheinmetall’s L44A1 is an enhanced version of its 120mm smoothbore gun, incorporating recoil reduction features such as a muzzle brake, enabling mounting on lighter tracked vehicles without compromising performance. The weapon remains compatible with NATO-standard 120mm ammunition, including programmable high-explosive and enhanced kinetic energy rounds. This partnership facilitates interoperability for allied forces operating CV90s, improving training, logistics, and spare parts sharing.
