Kopin Corporation has secured a $15.4-million contract from the US Army to produce advanced MicroLED augmented reality (AR) displays designed to give American troops a decisive edge in combat. The new displays, described as “ultra-bright” and “full-color,” are built to be tougher and more energy-efficient than traditional display systems. This enables troops to maintain crystal-clear visuals across both daylight and nighttime conditions, supporting mission performance in environments ranging from deserts to dense urban battlefields. According to Kopin, the AR systems will help redefine how soldiers perceive their operational environment, greatly improving situational awareness, threat detection, and decision-making. The technology is designed to minimize eye strain while preventing technical failures that could compromise mission success. This latest contract follows on from the company’s Soldier Display Trade Study and prior AR prototype work funded by the US military. It also includes the establishment of new domestic manufacturing capacity, enhancing national supply-chain security. Kopin brings extensive experience, having supplied over 400,000 vision systems across multiple defense programs over the past four decades. The company previously won a $7.5-million US DoD contract for microdisplays earlier in 2025. By scaling its AR MicroLED capabilities, Kopin positions itself at the forefront of battlefield visualization technology, aligning with the Pentagon’s broader push for advanced soldier lethality and readiness programs.
