Korean Air and LIG Nex1 have teamed up to compete for South Korea’s Block-I electronic warfare aircraft program, valued at 1.78 trillion won ($1.31 billion). The program seeks to develop the nation’s first indigenous large-scale electronic attack aircraft. The proposal, due in September, involves modifying a mid-sized civilian aircraft into a platform capable of intercepting and analyzing enemy signals while disrupting adversary air defenses and communications. If selected, Korean Air will oversee aircraft modification, production, and system integration, while LIG Nex1 leads development and installation of EW systems. The project underscores Seoul’s ambition to expand self-reliant capabilities in electronic warfare.
