In a move to upgrade its sniper capabilities, Norway has contracted Bertel O. Steen Defence & Security for next-gen optics. The deal, worth 92 million NOK ($9 million), includes Thermis Mk2 thermal scopes that offer high-performance imaging for both day and nighttime operations.
The scopes will be mounted on Barrett M107A1 rifles, a heavy-caliber anti-materiel weapon system the Norwegian Armed Forces are acquiring this summer. Greek optics firm Theon International will handle the production of the Thermis Mk2, with delivery expected by fall 2025. The integration of these scopes will strengthen Norway’s capability to engage threats across various terrains and conditions.
