Germany has partnered with Czech defense firm Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod (CZUB) to introduce a new standard-issue service pistol for its armed forces. The selected model, the P13 chambered in 9×19mm, is set to replace the currently used Heckler & Koch P8 sidearm.

The choice followed a competitive evaluation involving Slovenia’s Arex and Austria’s Glock, with cost-effectiveness cited as the determining factor, according to German news outlet Hartpunkt. Notably, no live fire or performance testing was conducted during the tender process.

Berlin is preparing a 25-million-euro ($29.2 million) draft contract proposal, expected to be presented to the federal parliament before fall 2025. If approved, the agreement will span up to seven years and involve the delivery of as many as 186,000 P13 pistols.

The P13 offers an effective firing range of around 50 meters. As part of the project, new carrying gear will be developed to accommodate diverse transport styles, though holster bodies will not be included—compatibility will instead be ensured through a standardized interface, according to the German Federal Armed Forces Office.
