DICON-D7G, the joint venture between Nigeria’s Defence Industries Corporation and D7G Company Limited, has produced close to 1,000 DG-103 rifles in just two months of operations at its Kaduna facility, according to Nigerian media. The DG-103 is Nigeria’s licensed version of the Russian AK-103 assault rifle, firing the 7.62×39mm M43 cartridge. The weapon offers a 600-round-per-minute firing rate, a muzzle velocity surpassing 700 m/s, and an effective range of up to 500 meters. Alongside rifle manufacturing, DICON-D7G plans an annual output of 60 million rounds of ammunition. Company leader Chennar noted that the venture is also manufacturing drones and anti-drone equipment featuring early detection systems, further expanding support for Nigerian troops. He highlighted the initiative as a significant step forward in Nigeria’s renewed drive for domestic weapons production. The partnership aims to enhance defense self-reliance by establishing national expertise in small-arms manufacturing, drone technologies, and integrated logistics. Chennar underscored that these developments align with Nigeria’s long-term strategy to strengthen national security and reduce dependence on imported defense systems.
