Raytheon has delivered the inaugural PhantomStrike radar to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for itsFA-50light combat aircraft fleet, marking a key moment in their 2023 partnership to enhance the jet’s targeting and tracking capabilities. The PhantomStrike radar is a compact, air-cooled system built with gallium nitride technology, providing faster signal processing, sharper target detection, and enhanced jam resistance. Its full fire-control capability in a reduced size and weight package suits space and power-constrained platforms like light fighters, helicopters, and unmanned aerial systems. Weighing nearly half of conventional radars and offering advanced performance at nearly half the cost, the system enables pilots to detect and respond quickly to threats. Earlier in 2025, it successfully completed air-to-air and ground testing on Raytheon’s Multi-Program Testbed aircraft. A lab integration unit was delivered to KAI in August, and production is underway at assembly sites in Mississippi, Arizona, and Scotland, supported by Raytheon UK. The radar is approved for export under a Direct Commercial Sale license.
