Rheinmetall has been contracted by Ukraine to provide 35mm ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft gun. The purchase, which is sponsored by Germany, comprises 180,000 rounds of High Explosive Incendiary with Tracer (HEI-T) ammunition. The shells are capable of attacking a variety of airborne targets, including drones. Rheinmetall will produce the ammunition at its plant in Unterlüß, in northern Germany, where it increased its production line in 2023.
