UAE defense giant EDGE Group and Spain’s Indra Group are set to launch a joint defense manufacturing venture in Spain, concentrating on loitering munitions and smart weapons. The move is designed to reinforce Europe’s defense self-sufficiency while meeting rising demand for modern weapon systems.

The León-based facility will merge EDGE’s expertise in advanced systems with Indra’s industrial base, with Indra investing €15–20 million ($17.4–23 million) to enhance drone production capabilities. The modular plant supports Europe’s broader strategy of reducing reliance on foreign suppliers for critical defense technologies.

EDGE has been expanding its international presence, with notable investments including a majority stake in Estonia’s Milrem Robotics and a 50 percent share in Brazil’s SIATT, boosting its R&D and production of smart weapons and missile systems.

Further European expansion includes the acquisition of Swiss UAV manufacturer ANAVIA, establishing a headquarters and prototyping facility in Bilten to facilitate collaborative development, technology transfer, and localized manufacturing.
