Taiwan is set to receive Mk 48 Mod 6 Advanced Technology heavyweight torpedoes from the US within the next three years, after earlier delays. According to its defense budget, deliveries will include four simulators in 2026, 14 torpedoes in 2027, and 10 in 2028. This is part of a NT$5.46B ($178M) foreign military sale first cleared in 2017. Initial delays pushed final delivery to 2030 due to Raytheon restarting production, but Taipei now expects completion by 2028. The new torpedoes, replacing aging German-made systems, weigh 1,698 kg, carry a 295 kg warhead, and feature digital guidance with sonar for adaptability in evolving threat environments.
