“Lumibird Photonics, which is headquartered in Sweden, has been awarded a deal by Saab to deliver 57 VIDAR laser rangefinders for the frigate fleet of the Royal Danish Navy.
The systems will be integrated into Saab’s CEROS naval fire control systems used aboard Danish frigates in 2025 and 2026, giving real-time, high-frequency range measurement capabilities.
In complicated environments, this enhances the accuracy with which naval guns and missile launchers may be used to target moving targets, such as drones or surface ships, as well as the ability to track threats.
“This latest success with Saab validates the flexibility and technical maturity of our VIDAR rangefinder range,” stated Marc LE Flohic, CEO of the Lumibird Group.
“We are delighted to see our technology helping the Danish Ministry of Defence in its goal of maintaining maritime security and arming NATO ships.”
In the interim, Carina Harnesk, CEO of Lumibird Photonics Sweden, stated that the company believes there is “strong potential for future orders from additional users with similar operational needs.”
