The Finnish defense company Patria has successfully completed live-fire testing of the 155 Self-Propelled Gun (SPG), its new ARtillery on Vehicle (ARVE) mobile artillery system.
The system’s performance was assessed by the tests across a range of firing circumstances, including the use of high-overpressure charges.
The system, which is intended for use in Arctic conditions, was unveiled at the Arctic Event in Lapland in March.
The ARVE system is based upon Patria’s 155K98 artillery gun, which is currently utilized by the Finnish Defense Forces, and is installed on a Sisu all-terrain vehicle chassis.
Its rapid rate of fire and high mobility allow it to attack both land and sea targets.
The 155 SPG is made in the country and has complete interoperability with Finland’s current artillery systems in terms of maintenance, spare parts, and ammunition.
It is also compatible with fire control systems and artillery ammunition manufactured to NATO standards.
The ARVE system, which was launched at a time when there were increasing worries about regional security, is an innovative addition to Patria’s indirect fire capabilities, according to Mikko Leino, Executive VP of the company’s Defence and Weapon Systems division.
“We think that our new product will meet the performance needs of our clients and will also find its way into international markets,” he stated.
