Saab has received a contract from the US Army valued at around $46 million to provide an unspecified number of Giraffe 1X radar systems. The agreement supports the United States’ security cooperation partners, with deliveries of the compact systems expected to begin in 2026. The Giraffe 1X radar, developed by the Swedish defense firm, is known for its lightweight, modular design and rapid deployment capability. Weighing under 150 kilograms, the system offers 3D surveillance and can be installed on vehicles, naval vessels, or fixed locations. This flexibility allows military operators to integrate the radar across various platforms for continuous air monitoring. The radar provides real-time detection of aerial threats such as drones, helicopters, and missiles, offering operators early warning and enhanced situational awareness in the field. The system’s advanced software enables automatic target recognition, tracking, and sharing of data with wider command and control networks. Saab’s Giraffe family of radars has been widely used in multiple defense programs worldwide for its high reliability and low maintenance needs. The 1X model’s small form factor and high performance make it ideal for mobile operations and quick-response missions. This contract further strengthens Saab’s partnership with the US military, continuing years of cooperation on radar and air defense technologies. Saab officials stated that the agreement demonstrates trust in their advanced radar solutions and commitment to providing adaptable systems that improve mission safety and awareness for allied forces.
