Navantia has begun construction of ship modules at its Puerto Real shipyard in Cádiz as part of the UK’s Fleet Solid Support program, marking the transition from design to full production. The multinational effort brings together Navantia UK, Harland and Wolff, and Spanish shipyards to deliver three large logistics vessels for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Steel cutting began earlier at the Appledore shipyard in the UK, while modules produced in Spain will be transported to Belfast for final assembly and integration. Scheduled to enter service by 2032, the ships will be among the largest in the UK fleet and are designed to sustain Royal Navy carrier strike groups by delivering fuel, ammunition, spare parts, and supplies during extended deployments at sea.
