Gore is submitting an improved insulation jacket for the U.S. Army’s Soldier Enhanced Program, aiming to replace the existing two-layer cold-weather system. The new single-layer design weighs just under 17 ounces and occupies 40% less pack space. It combines a fleece inner layer with a laminated Windstopper membrane, operating in temperatures from –40 to 30°F (–40 to –1°C) while reducing exposure to PFAS-based repellents. Field trials are underway with units at the Army Mountain Warfare School and 11th Airborne/Arctic Regions Test Center. The evaluation reflects ongoing efforts to modernize soldier clothing for mobility, protection, and environmental adaptability. Parallel initiatives across the services include heat-regulating undershirts, flame-resistant sensor-equipped garments, and lighter body armor, with programs like Soldier 2025 emphasizing adaptive fabrics and integrated power systems.
