Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems has secured a $228-million contract to deliver its Iron Fist active protection system for the US Army’s Bradley infantry fighting vehicle fleet. The agreement forms part of a long-term modernization effort led by General Dynamics to upgrade the Bradley platform over an eight-year period, potentially covering more than 1,200 vehicles. Elbit is expected to carry out Iron Fist integration and support activities over the next three years, building on an earlier contract awarded in May 2024 that designated the M2A4E1 Bradley as the initial recipient. This latest award represents the third procurement order under the broader Bradley upgrade initiative. Iron Fist is a hard-kill active protection system designed to enhance vehicle survivability against modern battlefield threats. Using a network of sensors, the system detects incoming projectiles and launches a compact interceptor to neutralize them at a safe distance from the vehicle. The system provides full 360-degree coverage and is effective against a range of threats, including anti-tank guided missiles, rockets, loitering munitions, unmanned aerial systems, and kinetic energy rounds. Its compact turret design minimizes vehicle integration impact while maintaining high defensive effectiveness. In parallel with US Army integration, Iron Fist is also being fielded on NATO CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, underscoring its growing acceptance among Western armored forces.
