Poland is preparing to acquire roughly 250 second-hand U.S. Stryker armored vehicles for the symbolic price of one dollar, a decision backed by the Polish General Staff and confirmed by senior defense officials. The vehicles will come from American units currently stationed in Europe as Washington reduces its Stryker presence on the continent. Once technical inspections and refurbishment plans are finalized, the transfer will supply the Polish Army with a rapid influx of armored mobility, helping offset capability gaps created by equipment transfers to Ukraine and accelerating force modernization. The M1126 Infantry Carrier Vehicle, part of the proven Stryker 8×8 family derived from the LAV III and Piranha III, carries nine dismounts in addition to its crew and is designed for fast deployment, including airlift compatibility with major transport aircraft. Widely exported and already used in Ukraine, the platform provides coalition-friendly mobility and flexibility. Its remotely operated M151 Protector weapon station supports multiple armaments, including heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, and the CROWS-J configuration with a Javelin missile launcher for engaging armor at stand-off ranges. This modularity enables missions ranging from troop transport to direct combat against legacy armored threats. The transfer significantly strengthens NATO’s eastern flank while reinforcing deepening U.S.-Polish defense cooperation.
