Oshkosh Defense has secured a contract from the US Army to supply 97 Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles A2 Low-Velocity Airdrop cargo trucks, reinforcing the Army’s ability to rapidly deploy logistics assets into contested and austere environments. The order includes both 4×4 and 6×6 variants configured to support Mobile Brigade Combat Teams by ensuring sustained mobility and supply under challenging operational conditions. A key feature of the contract is the inclusion of Arctic Kits, which adapt the vehicles for extreme cold-weather operations, supporting the Army’s growing focus on Arctic and high-latitude readiness. The FMTV A2 LVAD platform is designed for precision airdrop, reducing dependence on fixed infrastructure and enabling rapid resupply in forward areas. The 4×4 variant successfully completed multiple airdrop tests at Yuma Proving Grounds, while the 6×6 version completed similar trials earlier. Payload capacities range from 5,000 to 16,000 pounds depending on configuration, with operational speeds approaching 60 miles per hour. The vehicles provide flexible, air-deployable logistics capability across a range of mission profiles.
