US-based South 8 Technologies and Australia’s 3ME Technology have signed a letter of intent to jointly develop a lithium-ion battery tailored for Arctic military operations. The collaboration will integrate South 8’s LiGas cell technology with 3ME’s EdgeVOLT Cold Weather Variant storage platform. The system is designed to function reliably in temperatures as low as minus 60 degrees Celsius. Officials said the battery aims to provide safe, portable power for defense missions in extreme climates, with potential applications in aerospace, maritime, and other demanding environments.
