The most recent versions of the AMRAAM missile, which provide air defense and aerial strike capabilities, will be purchased by the Australian government for 2.12 billion Australian dollars ($1.39 billion).
The declaration comes after the US State Department granted Australia permission to purchase up to 200 AIM-120C and AIM-120D AMRAAM missiles in April.
The 120D-3 will be used on Australia’s F/A-18F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, and F-35A Lightning II aircraft, whereas the National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS) will be equipped with the 120C-8.
In order to improve the nation’s short-to-medium-range air defense capabilities, the NASAMS is being inducted by the Australian Army’s new 10th Brigade.
Through the Foreign Military Sales Program of the US government, the weapons will be purchased.
