Türkiye’s Defense Industries Presidency (SSB) has ordered a sixth prototype of the KAAN fifth-generation fighter jet, marking a major step in the nation’s indigenous defense aerospace ambitions. Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), the KAAN—formerly TF-X—is Türkiye’s first fully homegrown advanced combat aircraft. Initiated in 2016, the project has progressed through extensive aerodynamic simulations and early conceptual phases, with a full-scale mock-up displayed in 2019. The sixth prototype order confirms Türkiye’s continued commitment to fielding a modern, stealth-capable fighter and underscores its emergence as a key player in next-gen air combat platforms.
