In order to support the US Navy’s Virginia-class Block VI submarine program, the US Department of Defense has given General Dynamics Electric Boat a $1.8 billion contract to continue acquiring long lead time materials.
The award is based on agreements totaling $2.2 billion in 2023, $1.3 billion in August 2024, and $1.06 billion in April, all of which cover the advanced procurement of essential components and sophisticated building work related to the manufacturing of the incoming fleet.
Earlier in June, General Dynamics signed a contract for lead yard support, component development, and improvements to supplier development for the submarines. The contract work will be carried out at various locations in California and the United States.
The business will be collaborating with the Naval Sea Systems Command, the US Navy’s materiel and fielding organization, as it works toward its scheduled completion in September 2035.
