Washington has reportedly canceled plans to deploy around 4,000 American soldiers to Poland as part of changes to US military positioning in Europe. The decision came shortly after the Pentagon announced plans to reduce troop numbers in Germany by approximately 5,000 personnel. According to US military officials, the cancellation order was issued by the office of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, even though some troops and equipment had already begun moving overseas. The abrupt reversal led to criticism from lawmakers, particularly because Polish officials were allegedly not informed in advance. Several US representatives argued that such actions could damage America’s credibility among NATO allies. Poland’s Defence Minister suggested that the canceled deployment could be connected to broader troop relocation plans involving Germany. Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly called for reducing the American military presence in Europe, insisting that European countries should contribute more to their own defence and security. The troop reduction announcements also came during political disagreements over the Middle East conflict involving Iran and Israel. NATO officials later clarified that the reorganization of US forces would not significantly weaken alliance security because other NATO members, including Germany and Canada, are increasing their military presence along Eastern Europe.
