Conflict monitoring organization ACLED reports that more than 100,000 people have been killed in Myanmar since the military seized power in February 2021, triggering a nationwide civil war. The conflict began after the armed forces removed the elected government led by Aung San Suu Kyi, sparking mass protests that later evolved into armed resistance involving pro-democracy groups and long-standing ethnic armed organizations. Although no official casualty figures exist, analysts consider Myanmar’s ongoing conflict the deadliest active war in Asia, with violence continuing across multiple regions and affecting both civilians and combatants.
