Aerostar, a Lockheed Martin authorized maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center, has successfully completed its first Phase Maintenance Inspection (PMI) on a Black Hawk® helicopter for Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI). Completed ahead of schedule, the project reflects Aerostar’s highly skilled workforce, dedication to quality, and strong support for the MAI’s helicopter operations.

Previously, Black Hawk operators in Romania had to carry out these inspections at their own facilities. With Aerostar now providing this service locally, operators can focus on routine maintenance and operational readiness, improving the overall availability of the fleet.

This first completed inspection represents a key milestone, with work already underway on a second helicopter. The MAI’s Black Hawk fleet performs critical missions such as maritime and land search and rescue, firefighting, transport, and emergency medical support.

The S-70M Black Hawk helicopter, manufactured by Sikorsky to rigorous military standards, is a versatile platform capable of executing the long-range and high-altitude missions required by the MAI. In 2024, Sikorsky secured an additional contract to supply another Black Hawk, expanding the Ministry’s fleet to eight. These helicopters, built at Lockheed Martin’s PZL Mielec facility in Poland, play a vital role in both civil and defense operations across Europe and beyond.
