The AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM), developed by Lockheed Martin, represents the next evolution in beyond-visual-range air combat for the US Air Force and Navy. Designed to complement or replace the AIM-120 AMRAAM, the missile emphasizes extended engagement range, survivability in contested environments, and seamless integration with stealth platforms such as the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II. Equipped with advanced seekers, two-way datalinks, and improved resistance to jamming, it enhances network-centric warfare capabilities. The program addresses emerging threats like China’s PL-15 and is expected to enter service in the late 2020s, reinforcing US air dominance.
