India is planning a massive step forward in aerospace by investing around $7 billion to build a powerful engine for its future AMCA Mk-2 fighter jet. The project will be handled by DRDO’s GTRE, with support expected from global leaders like Rolls-Royce, Safran, or General Electric. While the main budget focuses on designing and testing the engine, additional costs like building testing facilities, training experts, and setting up factories could push the total spending close to $10 billion. This move is important because India wants to reduce dependence on foreign engines and build its own advanced technology after earlier challenges like the Kaveri project.
