BAE Systems has been chosen by the US Army to create a prototype of the Multi-Domain Artillery Cannon (MDAC) system, which will be able to fire hypersonic projectiles. The contract, which was initially announced in late 2022, was sole-sourced to the Virginia-based firm, bypassing a competitive bidding procedure. The MDAC system will have eight cannons, four precision radars, and two multi-domain battle management systems.
